The Etosha pan, located in the north of Namibia, is the largest salt pan in Africa ant it measures120km from east to west and 60km from north to south. The pan is dried out except for several months in the summer rainy season. The pan is surrounded by the grassland of Savanna where numerous animals live. 114 species of mammals and 340 species of birds have been recorded. During the winter dry season, wild animals come to water holes studded in the pan. Water holes are quite busy especially in the late afternoon and animals are often queueing.

エトーシャ塩湖は、ナミビアの北部にある東西120km、南北60kmのアフリカ最大の塩湖。夏の雨季の数か月を除いてほとんどが干上がっている。塩湖の周囲にはサバンナの植生が広がり、多くの野生動物が生息している。114種類の哺乳類、340種の野鳥が記録されている。冬の乾季の塩湖にはところどころに水場が点在し、動物たちが水を求めて集まってくる。特に夕方は多くの動物が来て、順番待ちが発生するほど。
