Yahia, 72 years old guide, walks incredibly fast. It is important to follow the pace of donkeys. They walk quite slowly with ascent and descent slopes where they often have load collapse. But they walk fast on the flat ground at the pace of around 5km/h without any rest. 4 hours walk without rest is very much tiring and I was so exhausted at the destination. The Tuareg tradition of three cups of sweet green tea cured my fatigue.

72歳になるというガイドのヤッヒヤは軽快に歩く。少人数でのロバのキャラバンではロバのペースに合わせることが重要だ。上り坂では遅いが、平地では時速5km程度でコンスタントに歩く。上り坂では荷崩れを起こしやすく、平地ではルートを外れようとするので、ロバのペースで歩かないと対応できない。疲れてくるとこのペースの維持が難しくなるが、ロバは目的地まで休まないので必死について行かなければならない。4時間休みなしでロバについていくとくたくたになる。野営地に着くと、まずは3杯のお茶。甘いお茶が疲れを癒してくれる。

Maximum load for a donkey is about 50kg and it is not possible to load large quantity of water. And donkeys need water every three days. It is therefore indispensable to find water places on the way. But due to no rain in the last two months, it was very difficult to find. A water place was found after long way but the water was green with some sediments… This water is not only for donkeys but also for tea and soup…
The plateau of Tadjerahine has many shelters where frescoes of white nomads such as Iheren, etc. There are also frescoes of black nomads as many as those of white nomads. There are some shelters where both black and white nomads left their paintings. It is interesting to find some traces of their cultural exchange. “Three laughing persons’” of Tadrast shows the body shape of black people but it shows contour line and light colored skin like the white nomads. They can be mixed-blood. The left person of “Dancing black people” has a tool like a boomerang which is mostly used by white nomads.
ロバは50キロ程度までしか荷物を積めないので、重量のある水は多くは積めない。また、ラクダは2週間まで水なしで動けるが、ロバは3日一度水を飲ませないといけない。したがってロバの旅では旅の途上での水場の確保が不可欠となる。今回のように雨が長らく降らない状態では水場の確保は大変だった。ようやく見つけた水たまりの水は緑色で沈殿物が多い。これがロバだけでなく、人間用のお茶やスープとなる。
タジェラヒン台地にはイヘーレンをはじめとして白人系遊牧民の描いた壁画が多いが、黒人系遊牧民の壁画もそれ以上に多い。両者が混在している場所もある。彼らが交流した痕跡を見つけるのも面白い。タドラストの「笑う三人」は、体形は黒人のように見えるが、白人の絵のように輪郭線と褐色より薄い肌の色で塗られていて、混血のようにも見える。「踊る黒人たち」の壁画では、白人系にしか見られないブーメラン状のものを持っている人物もいる。
